The feast of our Lady of Bruna in Matera.

The ancient feast of the MADONNA DELLA BRUNA, the patron saint of Matera, begins with the procession of ù”shepherds” with which the old neighbourhoods wake up at dawn to greet the framework of the virgin, whose passage is announced by the barrelsfireworks. Meanwhile the knights,escort wagon procession,gather along the streets and in the neigborhoods.

As tradition dictates,on the morning of July 2^nd the statue of Mary is carried in the church of Piccianello, only to be carried in procession on the triumphial car all afternoon along  the main streets filed with people, until you arrive in the evening in the square of the Duomo where you do the “three circles” symbol of taking possession of the city by the SS. Patron. The statue, accompanied by Archibishop,will be placed in the cathedral.

The tank is surrounded by the Knights with horses harnessed with paper,flowers and velvets, the charioteer urging the mules to the square a few hundred meteres, to return to the crowd who is around the symbol of the event.
